Our Story

TX-COMU was officially formed in late 2025 in response to a critical need identified during emergency operations associated with the Kerr County flooding event along the Guadalupe River.

During the response, emergency communications personnel were needed to support Emergency Support Function 2 (ESF-2) operations and provide communications expertise in support of affected communities and responding agencies.

While many experienced communications professionals expressed a desire to serve, a significant number were retired from public safety service and no longer affiliated with a qualifying public safety agency. Despite possessing valuable knowledge, operational experience, and technical expertise, many were unable to participate through traditional deployment pathways.

Recognizing this gap, communications professionals and public safety leaders established TX-COMU to create opportunities for qualified communications personnel to continue contributing to the safety and resilience of Texas communities while supporting the development of future communications leaders.
